Saving money at home is a good way for you and your family to bond and improve your whole family’s finances. It’s also a great time to teach your children the importance of saving money and saving our environment as to start saving money at home tips

There are a lot of ways you can do to save more money in your household and here are some money saving ways that my family has been doing for a while now.

Ways On How To Save Money At Home

  1. Unplug unused appliances.
Plugged appliances can still consume electricity even though they are turned off, so it is advisable to unplug them when you are not using them. This simple way can really help you save money at home.
  2. Use CFL bulbs(Compact Fluorescent Lamps) instead of incandescent light bulbs.
CFL’s consumes lower electricity compare to incandescent lamps and they even last longer. These bulbs can help save more money at home, so go to your local hardware store and change your light bulbs now.
  3. Open up those curtains or windows during daytime.
Opening the windows at your home during the day maximize your house’s use of natural sunlight and also improves the air circulation at your home.
  4. Switch the lights off before leaving a room or going to sleep.
Switch off a room’s light when nobody is in there. Do not also leave the light on when you are going to sleep or if you are just scared of the dark, you should put some big boy pants on instead of wasting electricity and money.
  5. Put your refrigerator in a place far from a heat source.
This will lessen the power your refrigerator will use in order to cool the things inside and remember to have some space between the wall and your fridge too. By just moving your refrigerator to the right place, you’re now saving money at home.
  6. Avoid opening your refrigerator or freezer too often.
Opening the refrigerator too often lets the cool air escape and can result to higher electric bills because the refrigerator is consuming more electricity in order to make up for the lost air. If you happen to do this less frequently, then you can expect that you’ll be saving money at home better.
  7. Only wash the dishes when you have a full load.
Washing your dishes more than twice a day may waste more water and dish washing liquid. Don’t wash your dishes every time you see some dish at your sink, let it pile up then wash them all at the same time.
  8. Do your laundry once or twice a week.
Just like in number 7, don’t do the laundry too often, only wash your clothes when you have a full load or when you have nothing to wear anymore.
  9. Minimize the use of your dryer.
Stop using the dryer when the sun is shining bright or when it’s hot outside. Try to air dry your clothes instead, it is much cheaper and energy-saving. Only use the dryer when the weather is bad or it is raining.
  10. Take shorter baths.
If you think your spending too much time at the shower, try to reduce it by 5 or 10 minutes. It will save you some soap and shampoo, and of course, this reduces your water bill.
  11. Use gas stoves instead of electric stoves.
Gas stoves use less energy but are more effective in heating than electric stove. If you are using an electric stove at your house, then you should replace it with a gas stove for you to save more energy.
  12. Clean your air conditioner filter regularly.
If you have an air conditioner at your home and you haven’t clean it for a long time now. You may want to clean it as soon as possible and make sure to do it regularly, a clean filter means your air conditioner won’t have a long time cooling your room.
  13. Use an electric fan more than your air conditioner.
When you have both an air conditioner and a fan in a room, you might want to use the air conditioner less and use your electric fan more. An example could be when you are sleeping, try to use an air conditioner and electric fan that can be timed, use the air conditioner at the first 2-3 hours of your sleep and turn on the electric fan after that.
  14. Teach your kids the value of money early.
If you are not always around, your kids might be doing things that consumes too much electricity and water. Teach them the importance of saving and reward them when they follow your instructions.
  15. Encourage your kids to read books or to help you in household chores more.
Instead of letting them play computer games every time, you might want to talk to them and ask if they can help you out at your household chores. If they do obey you, then that would be a great boost for your family’s goal to start saving money at home. You can also give them some books that may entertain or amuse them, this will also help in making them more knowledgeable in different things in life.
