How To Start A Blog: A Step-By-Step Guide

A Step by Step Guide on How to Start a Blog

A blog contains posts that are about a certain topic that the blogger, the one writing, is very familiar with. Having a blog is great for you to share your knowledge to others and for some instances you may also profit from your blog. That’s maybe two of the reasons why blogging is becoming very popular these days. If you want to join the trend and start blogging today, you may do these following steps on how to start a blog below:

STEP #1: Know what you are going to blog about

It is advisable to blog things that you like or know a lot. You must know what you’ll be talking about or what your sharing to your readers, this will help in building your credibility. Remember that there are already millions of bloggers, so you should make your blog unique as much as possible.

STEP #2: Decide whether you’re going to get a web hosting or not

Your web host provider is where you’re blog or website will be sitting or where it is located when you take it online. You may choose from a free host or a paid host. Having a free host is good for small sites that doesn’t expect too much traffic but your blog may be less secured and you will not be able to put any advertisements on it. My advice is for you to start your blog with a free web hosting and then get a paid host after you figured out the ins and outs of blogging or you could just get a paid web host immediately, it really depends on you. If you’re planning to get a paid web hosting, then I would recommend for you to check HostGator out.

STEP #3: Choose your domain name

The domain name is your website’s address (for example, the domain of this site is http://thinkrichbefree.com because I paid for my domain name and a web hosting service). If you’re going to get a free web hosting, your domain may look like this: http://yourdomain.wordpress.com or http://yourdomain.blogspot.com. Having a domain name is essential when building your own blog, so make sure that it will be appealing and relevant to your site’s niche. An advice in choosing a domain name is to make it simple and short as possible.

STEP #4: Choose your blogging platform

A blogging platform is where you’re going to be starting and creating your blog. There are only two blogging platform that I would recommend to you: Blogger and WordPress. Blogger is offered by Google and it is the most popular blogging platform of all. Setting up your blog with Blogger is so easy, you can set up your blog within a day. Meanwhile, WordPress is also good for both beginners and experienced bloggers and it can also be setup easily. The good thing about WordPress is that it has a ton of features that could help you in creating a great and unique blog design.

STEP #5: Start writing quality content on your blog

After completing all the steps above, it’s now time for you to start writing on your blog. Make sure that your blog will only contain quality content and there are not plagiarized. Write posts that are related to your blog’s niche. Keep your blog updated and make a new post at least every week or to make matters interesting write everyday, most successful sites update regularly. You may write things about your personal experiences every once in a while, a review of a product or services that you have used, or a “how to” post to help guide your readers, just like this post.

STEP #6: Promote your blog

If you’re going to start a blog, it is best to tell family and friends first about it to get some readers early. Traffic is generated when there are people visiting and reading on your site. It is very important to your blog because without it, your blog is irrelevant. If you have a paid web hosting, they can help you in knowing how to gain more traffic into your blog.
